The Golden Eagle

We were coming down the drive the other day (no camera in hand of course) and lo and behold what did I see? Sitting atop a fence post was what appeared to be a medium sized dog - a Springer Spaniel or something.

As we drew near, it became apparent that it was a bird of prey. A very large bird of prey. It was none other than a Golden Eagle.

Golden's are not uncommon here, but it is still a spectacle to see them up close. This one was not the largest we've sighted - he only had about a 5 foot wing spann I would guess - but it is something to see when you are only 30 feet away and it is trying to get airborn directly in front of you.

The following day, we took the camera out in hopes of getting a picture. Another Golden - this one even bigger than the one spotted the day previous - was chasing a Raven across the hay field South of the Farm. Looked like a hawk chasing a sparrow to compare sizes. Unfortunately, our camera lens isn't that great or I would have the pics up by now. I will get some pics of that bird one day and post them. Maybe some of the Great Horned Owl that lives in the bushes beside the house too.

Our geographical location is heavenly to us. On the edge of a Bird Sanctuary, we get to see many wonderful creatures that most folks don't.

We hope many of you can get out to see us some time.
