School Tours and Education Opportunities
Have you ever wondered how you milk a cow? Wanted to see how livestock is tended to with feeding and cleaning? Wondered what it is like to see a chicken hatch or a foal or calf being born or nursed?
We will accept school and daycare tours (as well as individual requests) to take part in activities like those mentioned above. People will be able to actually milk a goat or a cow; see animals give birth to offspring and nurse them; eggs hatch in an incubator. There will also be opportunity to take part in the daily chores of feeding the animals and even helping to clean the pens and stalls. Activities that require it will include using a team of horses to haul away waste or haul in fresh feed and bedding.
Have you ever experienced collecting eggs from under a live chicken? Another part of the twice daily chores is collecting eggs and making sure the chickens have enough food and water to get them through the day/night. There is a lot to be said about the thrill of reaching your hand under a chicken on her nest and collecting the eggs she is sitting on.
Aside from the daily routines of feeding and cleaning the animals or collecting the food stuffs they supply us with, there is also the opportunity to see how cream is separated from milk and the other more "tedious" chores that go along with an old style farm. Best of all, you get the opportunity to interact with the animals while learning about their habits and more importantly, their needs.
There will even be opportunity for some to drive a team of horses while doing old style farming duties, like pulling a plough or other piece of equipment. Others will experience the task of saddling a horse and going for a ride to "check" the livestock.
